Local Lawn Care in Boise, From a Crew That Lives Here Too
Been in Boise long enough to know what these yards actually go through. Dry summers that bake the grass brown if irrigation is not set up right. Hard winters that freeze everything overnight and thaw it out by noon. Freeze-thaw cycles that heave soil and leave bare patches where a healthy lawn was sitting just a few months before. We have been working Ada County yards through all of it for over 25 years and that time on the ground is what separates a crew that knows this soil from one that is figuring it out on your property.
Gary runs this company personally and has since the beginning. When you call Green Lawn Care you are not navigating a call center or dealing with someone who hands the job off without knowing what was discussed. You are talking to a local crew that works in Boise every day, knows these neighborhoods, and takes real pride in how your yard looks when we leave.

Lawn Care Services We Provide in Boise
One crew, all of it handled. Here is what we do across Boise and Ada County.
- Lawn Mowing and Edging Regular mowing schedule built around the actual season, not a fixed calendar that ignores what the grass is doing. Edges kept crisp, clippings managed, yards that look properly maintained because they genuinely are. North End, Bench, Southeast Boise, Harris Ranch, we work them all regularly.
- Fertilization and Weed Control Ada County soil has its own characteristics and it does not respond well to a generic fertilization schedule pulled from somewhere that is not Idaho. We work with what your specific lawn actually needs and stay ahead of the weeds that show up in Boise yards every season before they get established enough to be a real problem.
- Sprinkler Repair and Irrigation Boise averages around 12 inches of rain a year. That is not enough to keep a lawn alive through July and August without irrigation that is set up and maintained properly. We install, repair and maintain sprinkler systems across Ada County, built around the actual seasons here so things stay green without wasting water or running up your bills unnecessarily.
- Tree Trimming Boise trees need proper attention and the ones that do not get it eventually become a liability for the property. North End oaks, Highlands properties, Southeast Boise yards, we have worked on a lot of them. Trimmed and pruned the right way so they stay healthy and look good long term.
- Yard Cleanup Dead growth, seasonal debris, overgrown areas that got away from you over winter. Spring cleanup after a hard Boise winter or fall prep before the next one. We clear it all out properly and leave the yard looking right again.
- Snow Removal Boise winters move fast. Walkways and driveways coated overnight, properties that are not cleared out properly becoming a real problem by morning. We handle it so you are not outside at six in the morning figuring it out yourself.
- Pest Control Common Boise lawn pests do real damage when they get left alone long enough. Grubs, chinch bugs, sod webworms, the ones that work quietly until the damage is already visible. We keep them from becoming a problem before they reach that point rather than reacting after the fact.
- Hardscaping and Patio Work Patios, retaining walls, pavers, flagstone, fire pits. Outdoor spaces built to actually hold up through Boise winters rather than shift and crack by the time spring thaw arrives. We have built dozens of projects across the Treasure Valley and we know what materials and methods work here.
- Sod Installation New sod laid evenly and set up to take root properly in Ada County conditions. Not just rolled out and left to figure itself out.
- Landscape Design and Softscaping Native plants that survive Idaho's dry spells without constant attention. Flowerbeds that come back each season. Garden spots that feel like they were planned properly rather than pieced together over time. Neighbors notice and that tends to mean the work is holding up the way it should.

Why Boise Homeowners Keep Coming Back to
Green Lawn Care
Twenty-five years in Boise. Word gets around fast in this city and the only reason we are still here is because the work holds up.
Owner picks up the phone himself. Responds fast. Customers bring this up on their own in reviews, not because we asked them to. The communication, the updates, not having to wonder what is happening with their property. One customer has been with us ten years. Regular lawn work, pavers, specialty jobs, all of it. Still here after a decade and says the yards have never looked better.
Crew gets called out by name. One technician fixed something on a routine visit at no charge just because it needed doing. Customer mentioned it in a review. Another person said they would book again based on a single visit. You cannot manufacture that. It happens because the people showing up care about delivering quality work every time.
Free estimate. Nothing on the invoice that was not discussed first. Small yard or large commercial property, same approach either way.
Lawn Care
in Boise — What Actually Works Here
The
Best Grass
for Boise
Cool-season grasses are what you want here. Kentucky bluegrass is what most Boise yards have and it handles the winters well. Tall fescue is a good call for shadier spots or if your irrigation is not great, holds up better when things dry out in August. Bermuda grass can make it through a Boise summer but our winters go fully dormant on it and most people do not want brown grass from November through March.
Watering
Boise gets about twelve inches of rain a year and that is just not enough to keep grass alive through July and August. Most yards here need about an inch to an inch and a half of water per week during summer. Water in the morning if you can, before ten o'clock. Grass dries out through the day and you avoid fungal problems. We see a lot of irrigation systems running in the afternoon heat or overnight and it wastes water and slowly weakens the lawn. Real common reason Boise lawns struggle through summer.
Mowing Height
Do not cut cool-season grass below two and a half inches here. Shorter than that and the soil dries out fast, weeds move in and the lawn has a hard time recovering through summer heat. Taller grass shades the ground and keeps moisture in. Try not to take off more than a third of the blade in one visit either. Spring might mean cutting every five or six days. By fall every ten to fourteen days is about right.
Fertilization
Fall is the most important time to fertilize in Boise. September into October, the grass is storing reserves for winter and that is when it actually does something. A light application in April gets things going again after dormancy. Skip the heavy summer fertilizing, it pushes growth when the grass is already stressed out from the heat and usually makes things worse not better.
Freeze-Thaw
This is a big one in Boise that catches people off guard. Late winter and early spring bring cycles of freezing overnight and thawing during the day and it heaves soil and stresses roots. Lawns that looked totally fine in December can have bare patches by March from it. Aerating in fall helps roots go deep enough to handle those cycles. Overseeding thin spots in early fall gives new grass time to get established before the first hard frost.
Weeds
Dandelions, crabgrass, bindweed and spotted spurge are the ones we pull out of Boise yards constantly. Pre-emergent herbicide in early spring before soil temps hit 55 degrees is how you get ahead of crabgrass before it even starts. Dandelions and broadleaf weeds respond well to post-emergent treatment in spring and fall. Bindweed is the stubborn one, takes multiple treatments through the season. Always easier to stay on top of weeds than to deal with them after they have taken over a yard completely.
Lawn Care in Boise and the Treasure Valley
We are based at 4580 Henry St in Boise and we work across the broader Treasure Valley regularly.
Boise — Home base and where most of our work is. North End, Bench, Southeast Boise, Downtown, Harris Ranch, Hidden Springs, Garden City adjacent. Been working these neighborhoods long enough to know the soil variations from one side of town to the other.
Meridian — One of the fastest growing cities in the country and a lot of new construction means a lot of new yards being established in soil that needs real attention to get going properly. We work across Meridian regularly and know what it takes.
Eagle — Larger properties and more established landscaping than some of the newer Boise suburbs. Tree trimming, irrigation and hardscaping are the most common requests from Eagle customers and we handle all three.
Garden City — Tight lots, established neighborhoods, older irrigation systems that need work. We cover Garden City regularly and know the area well.
Nampa — Growing fast across the board. Mix of older established homes and new construction. Same Treasure Valley soil and climate as Boise, same approach from us.
McCall — Shorter growing season, heavier winters, different plant palette than the valley floor. We travel to McCall for customers who want the same standard of work they would get locally.
Cascade and Donnelly — Mountain community conditions, earlier frosts, specific challenges that come with elevation. We know what grows and what does not up there and we work accordingly.
